The map highlights the top 100 Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) based on patents granted by the world's five largest patent offices (IP5). The rankings are determined using fractional apportionment, which allocates patents to HEIs according to their share of granted patents.

Note: Based on IP5 patent data for 866 universities from 31 European countries, only direct academic patents (i.e. patent applications where the university is one of the applicants).
