Figure 9: Number of Longer-Term Data Center Jobs Per 100,000 Residents, by State (Q2 2025)

This figure was adapted from the Axios article "America's Data Center Job Hot Spots" which was published on January 24, 2025. This article's methodology was used to generate this similar updated figure that focuses on workers per 100,000 residents instead of percent change in data center employment by quarter. 

Note: This map presents the number of jobs in each state in 2025 Q2 using the U.S. Census Bureau "Full Quarter Employment (Stable)" Count. "Longer-Term Data Center Jobs" are measured through a proxy indicator NAICS National Industries Code "518210 Computing Infrastructure Providers, Data Processing, Web Hosting, and Related Services." There is no data for the Alaska, Michigan, Guam, American Samoa, the Northern Mariana Islands, and the U.S. Virgin Islands.

The following filters were used in the U.S. Census Bureau LED Extraction Tool:
Page 1 - Geography: 50 States, District of Columbia, Puerto Rico
Page 2 - Industry Detail:
    NAICS 6-digit National Industries Code: 518210
    Firm Ownership: All Ownership
    Other Firm Characteristics: No Firm Age/Size Detail
Page 3 - Worker Characteristics: No Worker Characteristics Detail
Page 4 - Employment: EmpS Full Quarter Employment (Stable): Counts. Description is as follows: “Estimate of stable jobs, i.e., the number of jobs that are held on both the first and last day of the quarter with the same employer. This is often, but not necessarily, the same as being employed for a full quarter (e.g., an on-call substitute teacher may have earnings in each of three consecutive quarters, but intermittently).”
