All four school districts have seen enrollment decline in recent years.

Local dollars provided 63.7% of the average Illinois school district's revenue for the 2024 fiscal year, meaning Auburn, North Mac and Waverly School Districts utilize a smaller share of local taxes than the typical Illinois school district. Springfield School District 186, the largest district in the area, used local taxes for about 55% of its FY 2024 revenue.
