The number of children ages 6-12 that are playing basketball and/or soccer on a regular basis has decreased in recent years, according to the State of Play: 2017 report by the Aspen Institute’s Project Play. The study, commissioned in 2016 by The Aspen Institute and the Sports & Fitness Industry Association, collected sports participation and other physical activity-related data from 24,134 individuals and households in an attempt to assess the state of organized youth sports in the United States. Golf and tennis saw the biggest increase in the number of youth participants.
