A map of downtown Athens showing the route taken by Jalen Carter and Chandler LeCroy. The route has seven points of interest. They are as follows: 1. Two cars leave downtown Athens en route to the Waffle House on Oconee Street. A Ford Expedition, driven by Chandler LeCroy, carries Devin Willock, Victoria Bowles and Warren McClendon. Jalen Carter drives a Jeep Grand Cherokee Trackhawk with a female UGA student in the passenger seat. 2. Footage obtained by Athens police shows both vehicles driving down Oconee Street prior to Hickory Street. In a report, police describe their driving as “reckless.” 3. Using security footage from a Dairy Queen, police estimate the Trackhawk is traveling at 100 mph and the Expedition is following at 78 mph on this stretch of road with a 35 mph speed limit. 4. The group arrives at the Oconee Street Waffle House but decide to instead go to the Waffle House on Barnett Shoals Road a couple miles away. 5. A security camera at a gas station captures footage less than half a mile away from the crash site. The cars are traveling side by side. According to the police department’s estimation, the cars were going 99 mph. The speed limit is 40 mph. 6. The road curves to the left and the Expedition hits a curb, going airborne. The car slams into a power pole and spins, hitting trees and another utility pole. The SUV crashes into an apartment building at 930 Barnett Shoals Road and comes to a stop. Jalen Carter’s Trackhawk is hit by falling power lines. The airbag control module registers the Expedition at 104 mph four seconds before the crash. 7. The two cars were heading for this Waffle House.
