Less than half of Tennessee 3rd-8th graders found proficient in any subjects

Newly-released data shows that, despite improvements compared to 2024, less than 50% of students tested at or above-expectations in the latest TCAP tests. That's still above the national average of about 29% proficiency in 2024.

Data shows the percent of students tested that met or exceeded expectations in each subject, which the TDEC considers at or above "proficient." The Nation's Report Card shows that in 2024, the average 8-th grader scored between 29% and 33% proficiency in math, reading, science and writing.
