This is a grouped bar graph showing the result of California law enforcement stops with searches, excluding stops in which a search was conducted because of an arrest, by race/ethnicity. For all racial/ethnic groups combined, 58.9% of outcomes were no punitive action, 17.0% were custodial arrest, 19.0% were citation, and 5.9% were other punitive outcome. No punitive action was the most common result across all racial/ethnic groups, ranging from approximately 49% to 66%. The White, Asian, Multiracial, MESA, and Hispanic racial/ethnic groups had slightly more citations than custodial arrests, with custodial arrest ranging from approximately 16% to 20% and citation ranging from approximately 19% to 23%. Meanwhile, Black individuals had custodial arrests and citations as equally common outcomes, at 14.5%, and Native American and Pacific Islander racial/ethnic groups had slightly more custodial arrests than citations, with custodial arrest ranging from approximately 21% to 25% and citation at approximately 20%. Other punitive outcome was the least common outcome across racial/ethnic groups, ranging from approximately 4% to 12%.
