The chart shows the percentage of world GDP separately held by China and the United States from 1980 to 2022. While the US is nowhere near its 1985 peak of 33.6%, nor its 2011 low of 21.1%, it has more or less remained around 25%. China, on the other hand, has seen a meteoric rise from consistently sitting between 1.6% and 2.4% from 1980 to 1995, to reaching a peak of 18.4% in 2021. China's share of the world's GDP is nearly competitive with the US, though it has certainly not surpassed the country yet as some other models suggest.
