This map includes the top six states that reported an American Indian/Alaska Native language as one of the top five most common EL languages spoken in 2017, and the 13 states that house the top 25 local educational agencies with the largest number of ELs who are NHPI.
The U.S. Census defines NHPI as people having origins in any of the original peoples of Hawaii, Guam, Samoa, Tonga, Fiji, the Marshalls, or other Pacific Islands.
