Drug prescriptions for lower back pain, by race
Physicians prescribed opioids at a higher rate to white patients and NSAIDs at a higher rate to minority patients.
Chart shows that 11.5% of percent of white patients received Opioid prescriptions. The rate was lower for minority patients: 10.5% for hispanic patients, 9.9% for Black patients and 8.8% for Asian and Pacific Islander patients. Conversely, 23.8% of white patients received NSAID prescriptions, a lower rate than minority patients: 25% for black patients, 25.4% for Asian and Pacific Islander patients and 27.6% for Hispanic patients.
