S&P 500's annual returns over multiple periods

Arithmetic mean is the calculation of average by sum of total of values divided by number of values.Geometric mean is the calculation of averages of series of values of product which takes into account the effect of compounding. Geometric mean is more useful when numbers are volatile year on year.
