Among Women, Lower Court Judiciary in Bigger States Better Chance at HC Promotion
The most important criteria of eligibility for HC judgeship is completion of 10 years as a high court lawyer or lower court judge. Based on the dataset (1994-2021) used for this story, of the women who made HC judge, more candidates served as lower court judges than lawyers.
Among the small number of women who made it to HC judge position between 1994 and 2021, the share of lower judges was higher than lawyers.
