Across 10 different petroleum industry forecasts all issued in 2024 and 2025, expected global demand for crude oil in 2050 varied extremely widely – ranging from a 20% increase projected by the Organization of Petroleum-Exporting Countries, to a 52% decrease projected in one scenario envisioned by oil giant Shell.
