Two in 10 say they have run out of food in the last month

The latest COVID Impact Survey finds about 2 in 10 Americans say they ran out of food in the past month before making enough money to buy more. Residents in some states, including Louisiana and Texas, are more likely to report running out of food.

The national survey of 2,047 adults was conducted May 30–June 8 using a sample drawn from NORC’s probability-based AmeriSpeak Panel, which is designed to be representative of the U.S. population. The margin of sampling error for all respondents is plus or minus 3 percentage points.
