How is public education funded?

During the 2018-2019 school year, the U.S. spent more than $764 billion on K-12 education, according to data from the National Center for Education Statistics.

The federal government contributed less than 8% of this funding.

In Connecticut, the share of federal funding is lower than the national average. That year, the state received just over 4.5% of its $11.9 billion budget from federal grants.
