Possession of weapons on North Carolina school campuses has risen, after four consecutive years of declines, to more than 3,200 incidents last school year. Possession of controlled substances is rising, while possession of alcohol is going down.
A single weapon may be counted multiple times if multiple students were cited for that weapon. The 2019-20 and 2020-21 school years were removed because schools were totally or partially closed to in-person instruction during those years.
