Timing of State-Level Government Elections

The four election year types are presidential (e.g. 2020), post-presidential (e.g. 2021), midterm (e.g. 2022), and post-midterm (e.g. 2023). Note: Due to the nature of state court term lengths, retention, and different selection methods of judges and filling vacancies, regular elections for a given court might only occur sometimes in an election year type (e.g. a supreme court may not have an election in every midterm).
