Job Gainers and Losers, 2019 to 2022
Annual employment was still below pre-pandemic levels in over half of all U.S. counties in 2022. The problem was worse in rural (nonmetropolitan) areas, where 60% of counties had fewer jobs in 2022 than they did in 2019.
