America's Most Dangerous Driving Habit, Mapped by State
Each state is categorized by whichever driving behavior, speeding, alcohol impairment, or distracted driving, produced the highest per capita fatality rate in 2024. Fatality counts and rates shown reflect that one deadliest behavior specifically, not a state's total traffic fatalities. Rates are calculated as fatalities per 100,000 residents rather than raw totals, so smaller states with fewer total deaths can still rank as the most dangerous for a given behavior.
