Year-Over-Year Weekly Earning Increases Surpass Inflation

Over the 12-month period ending in June 2023, average weekly earnings (nonfarm payrolls) increased by 3.7 percent, while the average price of consumer goods rose by 3.1 percent—the first time since March 2021 that wage increases have outpaced inflation. This gap had tightened since its peak in June 2022. Hover over each line to see the year-over-year increase by month.
