How Rite Aid compared to other top pharmacy chains in Pennsylvania

More than 280 Rite Aid pharmacies closed in Pennsylvania in recent years, but it was still a leading pharmacy chain in the state. Data show it had about 230 active pharmacy licenses as of early July 2025. The chart below shows how it compared to some other top chains.  

The business has continued to close stores as part of bankruptcy proceedings. 

Data represents pharmacies considered active or active on probation as of early July 2025. The Department of State records did not list the owners of the stores. The analysis is based on facility names. The data does not distinguish between different types of pharmacies, such as mail-order.
