We considered three hypothetical investors who each have $100,000. The Holder invests his money in a one-year CD, which rolls over each year. The Buyer invests her lump sum in an S&P 500 index fund. The Dollar-Cost Averager invests a set amount in the same index fund every month through the end of 2022.
