North Carolina sets student achievement goals as a part of its plan to comply with the federal Every Student Succeeds Act. It set pass rate goals for 3rd through 8th grade reading and 3rd through 8th grade math. By 2029, the state hopes to have 65.8% of students passing 3rd through 8th grade reading tests and 74.1% of students passing 3rd through 8th grade math tests.
