Reported cases of measles by year in Canada, 1950-2019

Following the introduction of the measles vaccine in 1963, reported case totals from the Public Health Agency of Canada show a decline through the late 20th century and historic lows from 2000, onward.

Note: The data in this chart is derived from that of the nationally notifiable diseases list. Following its initial inclusion on the list in 1924, measles was removed in 1959, and later reinstated as a notifiable disease in 1968, according to the Public Health Agency of Canada. Due to the exclusion, reported case totals from 1959-1968 are not available. You can learn more about Canada's history with measles here.
