View from left to right the state, the language used in anti-discrimination laws, the area(s) in which gender identity status is protected statewide, the name(s) of the anti-discrimination law(s), and the year protections were first implemented.

States that have enacted anti-discrimination laws protecting sexual orientation status but not gender identity have not been included. The six states in which anti-discrimination laws protect gender identity only in state employment have also not been included above. Those six states are Indiana, Kentucky, Michigan, Montana, Pennsylvania, and Virginia.
