Expense Categories for the Undisclosed Public Works Fund

Records show expenditures for the fund totaled $980,738 from 2015 to 2019. Some of that money was used for employee holiday parties and events and public works merchandise such as hats, shirts, backpacks and water bottles.

For the purposes of this analysis, NBC Bay Area categorized expenditures that were more than $1,000. Some expenditures that appeared to be for both merchandise and volunteer events were assigned to the volunteer cleanup events category.
