How California cities voted, 2012 vs. 2016

Democrat Hillary Clinton defeated Republican Donald Trump by almost 4.3 million votes in California. An analysis of counties' final results shows that Trump did worse in many Republican-leaning cities than the 2012 Republican nominee, Mitt Romney. The chart shows Republican registration as of Nov. 8, 2016 (red bar) and Republican presidential performance index* (gray bar.) A negative index means Romney did better. A positive one means Trump did better.
