What happened to people who were transferred to offshore processing countries since 19 July 2013?

Data as at 31 August 2025 relates only to those who transferred since 19 July 2023 and before September 2023. Figures for 31 March 2024 are as at 31 March 2024, other than numbers still in PNG (as at 31 December 2021), and number recognised as refugees by regional processing country (as at 31 December 2023).

Grey bars (including where figure is '2') indicate approximate figures provided by the Department, as it does not identify exact figures less than 5. Figure for PNG is at 31 December 2021, the date the arrangement with PNG ended, and now includes one person incarcerated that has been excluded from the figures otherwise provided by the Department. Total resettled only relates to outcomes facilitated by the Department of Home Affairs, and does not includes 13 people transferred from PNG to US after 31 December 2021. Number voluntarily returned includes 3 people returned to third country, otherwise excluded from official statistics.
