Uncertified hires on the rise in Texas districts

The number of uncertified hires at districts across Texas has increased significantly since the COVID pandemic. Statewide, about 1 in every 3 teachers hired in the 2023-24 school year were uncertified. The rate of uncertified hires was much higher in charter districts, where nearly 60% of hires lacked certification.
