This searchable table includes the total number of student referrals to officers, reported by schools in the United States during the 2017-18 school year, broken down by demographics. It also includes the rates of referral broken down by demographics (per 1000 students in each group), which allows for comparison between groups. Caveats: Referrals are the number of students referred, not the number of incidents. For a small number of schools, referral rates are higher than 1,000, an indication that there are more referrals than students in that demographic. This information is self-reported by schools and recorded by the U.S. Dept. of Ed. We recommend cross-referencing with schools and investigating claims of discrepancies. All figures for referrals by race do not include disabled students under Section 504 of the 1973 Rehabilitation Act because the data does not break down those students by race. Students with disabilities include students qualifying as disabled under both the Individuals with Disabilities Education (IDEA) Act and under Section 504 of the 1973 Rehabilitation Act. Any incident of “INF” in a number field is 0/0 (infinity) and is equal to zero. “Blank” means the field was blank in the U.S. Dept. of Ed. data.
