North Carolina personal income tax rates

North Carolina Rep. Tricia Cotham claimed the state budget enacted this year includes "the largest cut in our personal income tax that we’ve ever seen." That's not the case, state records show. Below are historical and scheduled personal income tax rates for the state.

NOTE: In 2013, the state’s personal income tax rate was a range based on income. North Carolinians paid a rate as high ast 7.75. In years denoted with asterisks, the budget schedules a 0.50-percentage-point decrease in the rate only if the state meets specific revenue goals.
