Virginia sworn law enforcement over 5-year period
There was a 15.3% drop in number of sworn officers between 2020-2022. However, the number of sworn officers employed in 2022 is higher than the two years before the pandemic. There were 4% more sworn officers last year compared to 2018.
The chart uses dark blue and light blue to indicate five year staffing levels of Virginia sworn law enforcement. There was a bump in law enforcement from 2019-2020, and then a two-year decline after 2020.
