Major Depressive Episodes in the Last Year (U.S. Teens)

Percent of 12-17-Year-Olds

Rates of major depressive episodes for teens were fairly constant in the early 2000s. Between 2010-15, rates began to climb for both boys and girls, continuing steadily into the most recent year, 2022. The increase for girls, from 12% in 2010 to 28% in 2022, is more pronounced than that for boys, from 4% in 2010 to 11.5% in 2022.
