Another year of extreme wildfire emissions in Canada

The chart shows the annual growth of wildfire emissions in million tons of carbon dioxide gas, from 2003 through July 30, 2025. The last three years' estimated emissions have each exceeded the country's reported carbon dioxide emissions from all human activities.

Canada's net CO2 emissions are from the country's report to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change. This figure does not include emissions of other greenhouse gases, such as methane. Wildfire emissions shown above may not match the country's own reported natural disturbance emissions for a variety of reasons, including considerations regarding "managed" land.
