Loss and damage from weather events has cost $593 billion USD in poor countries

This chart shows the financial costs of weather events in low- and lower middle-income countries (LI/LMICs) between 1998 and 2017. Assessing only the immediate damage, these figures do not even include long term economic impacts, e.g. as a result from food insecurity or health disorders.

Hover over a wedge on the pie to highlight its label & figure. The losses are measured in PPP (purchasing power parity), a measure that allows comparison of the relative cost of damages between countries of different income levels using a common currency.
