The growing elite newspaper focus on climate change

The chart shows the number of days per year when one group of newspapers focused more than the other on the subject of climate change. "Elite" papers always showed more focus, but that disparity has increased over time.

"Elite" papers are The New York Times, Washington Post, Wall Street Journal, Los Angeles Times, and USA Today. All other papers in the MediaCloud dataset are considered "Heartland." Data are based on searches for the terms "climate change," "global warming," "greenhouse gas," and "greenhouse effect."
