Involuntary commitment petitions in North Carolina

Source: Data from 2009 - 2018 collected by advocates at the Mecklenburg County Public Defender’s Office and PeerVoice NC's Recovery Alternatives to Force and Coercion Coalition and first published by NC Health News in 2019 • Data from 2019 - 2021 was collected by NC Health News and the actual totals for these years are slightly higher than represented here due to some missing years of data for five of North Carolina’s 100 counties between 2019 - 2021. • These numbers represent unverified, raw data gathered by tallying special proceeding confidential numbers which are given for each petition for commitment to the NC Administrative Office of the Courts. Every petition doesn’t end in a commitment order, but most do.
