Marriages fell significantly in N.J. during the pandemic

The number of marriages dropped by 17% in 2020 compared to 2019, a decline of more than 7,900 marriages. The decrease was most dramatic last spring, when the state's lockdown was at its height. While marriages leaped in October during a lull in coronavirus cases, they fell again in the winter and have remained low in 2021 -- though the wedding industry anticipates a surge of weddings in the coming months.
