State rates are taken from the CDC's Behavioral Risk Factor Surveillance System. County rates are taken from PLACES, a collaboration between the CDC, the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, and the CDC Foundation. PLACES uses data models to estimate variables for geographies that are too small to be directly measured using surveys such as the Behavioral Risk Factor Surveillance System. Data last updated in 2020.
