Straw purchases

Since 2017, federal prosecutors in the western district of Pennsylvania have filed 41 cases against 49 defendants for making false statements while buying guns from licensed dealers. Most involve so-called “straw” purchases, where someone buys a firearm for another individual, often a person who is prohibited from owning a gun. The following years are in fiscal years.

*The fiscal year runs from Oct. 1 through Sept. 30 ** Through Nov. 2, 2022
