New Jersey is on pace to exceed its average annual death totals in October

From 2015 to 2019 in New Jersey, an average of more than 74,000 people died regardless of cause each year. With the coronavirus pandemic, the state is projected to exceed that number by the end of October, even without a second wave of the virus.

September and October 2020 figures are based on average deaths in those months from 2015-19.
