More than 700 total company drivers and leased owner-operators responded to recent surveys conducted by Overdrive and CCJ, the latter as part of its annual "What Drivers Want" effort. Miles base pay (55%) was the most common current compensation method mentioned, roughly a fifth of those respondents reporting hourly rates supplementing miles for detention and/or other non-productive periods. In the "Other" column, operators reported salary and other guaranteed-pay methods, in addition to some ton-mile-based systems.
