Opioid overdose deaths included in this chart are identified by the presence of any of the following multiple cause-of-death codes, including opium; heroin; natural opioid analgesics and semisynthetic opioids, like morphine, codeine, oxycodone and hydrocodone; methadone; synthetic opioid analgesics other than methadone, like fentanyl and tramadol; and other and unspecified narcotics.
