CT's largest cities have fewer police than 12 years ago; Suburbs see increase

Click on each town to see how many police officers were in the municipal police department in 2011 and 2023.

Notes:
• 2011 data is as of April that year while 2023 data is as of October.
• Most towns in gray are covered by State Police, with some exceptions.
• The towns of Ledyard, East Lyme and Montville had municipal police departments in 2023 but not in 2011, so they are excluded from analysis.
• The town of Groton has three different municipal police departments — Groton Town, Groton Long Point and Groton City — so Groton data isn't shown on the map. Of the three, only Groton City police department saw a decrease, which was by two officers.
• Willimantic has a police department but is not shown due to being part of the town of Windham, which is under State Police jurisdiction. Willimantic saw an increase of three officers since 2011.
