Minnesota State Grant financial aid could fall by $1,000 or more for 1 in 3 college students, early projections show
Some 80% of students who receive financial aid through the Minnesota State Grant will receive less money in the 2026-27 school year because of a budget shortfall, according to the Office of Higher Education. The chart shows what percentage of students are projected to lose a particular range of dollars.
Data from the Minnesota Department of Higher Education show 20% of State Grant Program recipients' award amounts in the upcoming 2026-27 school year won't change as the result of the budget shortfall. For the remaining students, 26% will see aid reductions of $0 to $500; 20% will see aid reductions of $500 to $1,000; 13% will see aid reductions of $1,000 to $2,000; 12% will see aid reductions of $2,000 to $4,000; 9% will see aid reductions of $4,000 or more.
