Incarceration Triggered by Pretrial Detention of the Poor

In August 2020, 4% of defendants detained pretrial were held on a bond of $500 or less. In 2017, on average, this percentage was 28%.

The 2017 baseline was calculated as the average percent of pretrial detainees who were held on a bond of $500 or less each month in 2017.
