Rise in Mortgage Payments Only Partially Due to Inflation

Inflation rates from December 2019 to December 2024 only account for a 23% rise in the typical mortgage payment vs. the 106% gain seen in Zillow housing market data. More impactful have been mortgage rates, which soared from the 3% range pre-pandemic to a 6–8% range over the past two years.
