Small learning gains since pandemic

Scores are slowly improving on the state tests administered to public school students every year, new data shows. Those gains, however, still don't fully make up for the drop in both reading and math since 2018-2019. And the majority of increase is concentrated in the younger grades.

Note: OSPI did not test 10th graders in 2020-21, opting instead to test 9th and 11th graders that year because of the pandemic disruption.
