Referendum tax implications

If the school district's referendum passes, residents' property taxes would increase according to their home values.

Tax bills are calculated using a property's "equalized assessed value," which is one-third its fair market value. Most Illinois property owners benefit from a homestead exemption, which takes up to $6,000 off a property's equalized assessed value.
