Big cities falling short

Dispatch centers in dozens of major U.S. cities failed to pick up 911 calls fast enough in 2025.

* According to standards established by the National Emergency Number Association (NENA), 911 dispatchers should answer 90 percent of emergency calls within 15 seconds.
